conspiracy theories will close the door to the three angels’ messages if taught

The following is a worship talk given on 2010-10-04 to around 20 “conservative” Seventh-day Adventists.

Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Romans 13:1-7 — rulers are of God.
1Peter 2:13-17 – honor the king

April 10, 2008 Adventist Review editor Bill Knott writes in regards to a rumor circulated by a SDA pastor with a ministry in Virginia that secret meetings had taken place between Vatican and White House and Congress representatives, and that a Sunday Law would formally be signed into law when the pope would visit in April 2008:
————
The Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department of the General Conference has been “flooded” with calls and e-mails about these claims and has spent dozens of hours patiently investigating–and rebutting—the unfounded assertions of this conspiracy theory.

The alleged November gathering never occurred. “We checked every specific claim that accompanied this rumor and every one of them proved false,” writes attorney James Standish, director of legislative affairs for the General Conference, in a widely distributed letter. “The meeting did not occur at the site claimed, and the high-profile individuals who allegedly attended the meeting are documented to be in other locations at the time.”

“There has been no Sunday law bill introduced in the subsequent four months [since the alleged November conclave] and our research has turned up no evidence that would tend to corroborate the rumor,” Standish continues. “The person who is the source of the current claim also circulated another Sunday law claim approximately seven years ago. Once again, we vigorously researched the elements that could be verified and found each one to be inaccurate. In the seven years since that claim, no Sunday law has been introduced in Congress.”

The truly tragic aspect to the circulation of these conspiracy theories is that they reveal how successful uninformed and misguided persons can be in quickly creating a climate of fear and mistrust among thousands of believers. To treat such rumors as credible, a person must also conclude that the leaders of the church in both the North American Division and the General Conference—the offices for which are located less than 14 miles from the White House—are ignorant of events occurring in their very backyard, lulled into a fatal sense of end-time complacency, or worst of all, somehow in league with the enemies of religious freedom.

Such attitudes toward the church’s elected leaders are repugnant, and hold up to contempt the men and women whose wisdom, experience, and character are every day being used by the Lord Jesus to advance His cause in this world.
————-
While i don’t believe just everything written in the Review, i do wholeheartedly agree with the conclusions stated here, that quickly fear and mistrust can be inculcated in people, and that these conspiracies make us view our church leaders with contempt.

The “mother lode” of current conspiracy theories is that somehow the American govt. was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. This should be reprehensible to all citizens of this country, unless of course, it can be proved that there is actual complicity involved. But what are the charges? They are supposed video footage, supposed ways on how buildings should or shouldn’t catch fire, supposed ways on how buildings should or shouldn’t collapse – all pure speculation.

On Sep. 23rd, 2010, The US delegation to the United Nations walked out of a “conspiracy theory” speech:
******************
UNITED NATIONS – The U.S. delegation walked out of the U.N. speech of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday after he said some in the world have speculated that Americans were behind the Sept. 11 terror attacks, staged in an attempt to assure Israel’s survival.

He did not explain the logic of that statement that was made as he attacked the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ahmadinejad has called for the destruction of Israel and is deeply at odds with the United States and European allies over its nuclear program and suspicions that it is designed to produce an atomic bomb. Iran says it is only working on technology for electricity generation.

The U.S. delegation left the hall after Ahmadinejad said there were three theories about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks:

1. That “powerful and complex terrorist group” penetrated U.S. intelligence and defenses.

2. “That some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy and its grips on the Middle East in order also to save the Zionist regime. The majority of the American people as well as other nations and politicians agree with this view.”

The Americans stood and walked out without listening to the third theory, that the attack was the work of “a terrorist group but the American government supported and took advantage of the situation.”

Mark Kornblau, spokesman of the U.S. Mission to the world body, issued a statement within moments of Ahmadinejad’s attack.

“Rather than representing the aspirations and goodwill of the Iranian people,” he said, “Mr. Ahmadinejad has yet again chosen to spout vile conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic slurs that are as abhorrent and delusional as they are predictable.”
******************
This is what normal, intelligent, God-fearing people should do – not listen to conspiracy nonsense that has no basis in fact and pours contempt on the govt. which has God has set up.

I too used to believe in conspiracy theories from around 88-92. There were cool stories of ufos landing in Utah, of black helicopters from the UN scouting out America to take control over us, of secret concentration camps being built by the US govt., of new money that was being printed for the US in Australia etc. etc. Yes, there is a little bit of truth in at least some of these things, but thank God, when one SDA conspiracy theorist finally said it was time to buy guns and run for the hills, God led me to ditch it all. And just in time, as the Waco incident was soon after, and while i could see that the govt. did make some mistakes in handling that, it was not some huge conspiracy thing.

God helped me to see some of the fruits of reading and believing these conspiracy theories in my own life — 1. distrust of authority figures 2. secrecy 3. apathy because everything is controlled by the “elite” so i can’t do anything about it anyway. 4. a desire for “forbidden knowledge” 5. A tendency to blindly believe those who “tickle” your ears, and reject all others. 6. the worst of all – pride – because i know something most other people don’t, so they are stupid sheeple.

Are these the fruits of the Spirit? Where’s the love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, and faith? Am i becoming more like the Jesus i see in the Bible, or further away from him for believing these theories?

When we were introduced to the “7 Fat Years” interpretation of the Bible, did we really sit down and study like a good Berean should? Did we find out that nothing happened on Sep. 11, 2001 to signal a start of “fat” years? Did we find that nothing happened exactly 7 years later to signal its end? Did we go into detail about whether that event even has an end-time application, and is that application physical or spiritual? If we follow the whole event and what happened before and after, are we supposed to interpret it to mean that we will be in this world at least 400 more years before Christ delivers us? Where is the deep, long hours of study together like our forefathers did to see if these things are so? If we just take someone else’s word for our Bible interpretations, will we have the strength needed to stand in the Time of Trouble?

Now that we know that this past September was the best for the stock market in 71 years, what are we supposed to make of this? Of course it is possible that there will be a huge economic collapse starting today, only God knows the future, but obviously the 7 Lean Years’ interpretation with September as the time linchpin needs to be studied over, or rejected.

What are two things mentioned that led to Satan’s downfall? – pride and a desire to look into the unsearchable wisdom of God. The 1858 Great Controversy says: “Satan and his affected ones, who were striving to reform the government of God, wished to look into his unsearchable wisdom to ascertain his purpose in exalting Jesus, and endowing him with such unlimited power and command. ” Here is where the very first conspiracy theory was born!

What did God say thru his chosen servant – Ellen White? 1888 Materials:
They (God’s servants) unsettle minds in the truth by entering upon speculative theories, which draw them away from the truth. They help to forge the fetters of doubt and unbelief, fault-finding, and accusing; and souls stumble over them to perdition. The blood of souls will be upon those who, while they profess to be in the service of God, are doing the work of His enemy.

The Southern Missionary 03-01-1904:
Let them (God’s people) discard the cheap, foolish ideas which arise from curiosity, which Satan places in minds to lead to spiritual adultery.

This is the unsolicited testimony from a Brother Shaw, received several years ago:
The Lord has shown me what is wrong with the way we have attempted to work for Him in the past…The whole bulk of our ministry has been using the New World Order and the Jesuits, etc…to try to wake people up, to try to show them their need of Christ, etc…and friends we have watched the fruits of this kind of ministry over the past 4-5 years. Literally there has been no fruits….None among the souls we have shared this type of message with and none among ourselves–those whose ministry is based upon this consumed approach of evangelism. And let me tell you, there has not been much fruit! This Ministry is NOT ordained of Christ and is not following after His method of reaching the lost! This kind of Ministry has NOT helped my family nor has it helped others make fully surrendered choices for Jesus Christ. This type of ministry has not helped us overcome sin, prepare Christian characters, nor has it helped us learn to truly love one another. The devil is using these issues(jesuits, NWO) WHICH ARE TRUE to lead Adventists away from the message we have to give which is the Righteousness of Christ in the context of the Three Angels Messages…The message the Lord sent us in 1888…through Sister White, Jones and Waggoner…and it seems to me that the majority of the so-called Adventist Independent Ministries have swallowed it hook line and sinker….They are to busy condemning the GC, this church or that church, everyone and everything under the sun and that mind set and that character will not be ready to meet Jesus when He comes…I have spent tons and tons of hours over the past 4-5 years reading and pouring over anti-catholic material and Jesuit Conspiracy books, etc…all in attempt to show people from History all these terrible things that Rome has done. However, not only have I wasted a lot of the Lords money, I have wasted a lot of personal preparation time for allowing the Lord to teach me from His Word and allow Him to Perfect my Character and prepare to meet Jesus.
We have little by little been selling many of these books that we have collected over the years and we will be selling most of them…..these are not the kind of books we need to keep in our library to be feasting upon….we know this evil is in the world and we know what this evil has done, is doing and will do….enough information is in the Great Controversy Book to deal with all of that….that is all the information the people need to know about this. They need to know Jesus Christ, not about the Jesuits, NWO, Black Pope, etc…Jesus Christ and His love for them! The gift of God’s Son. That is what changed my life and that is the only thing that can change another’s!
————————–
Please notice that i understand that we, as Seventh-day Adventists, spread the message that there will be a Sunday law enacted at the end times. Some people in the world may call this a “conspiracy theory”. But the difference is, is that this is fully supported from the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy, whereas the conspiracy theories i’m talking about here are of the speculative, secretive, variety that usually have to do with interpreting current events – something we are definitely NOT supposed to do, as inspired word tells us how we will actually close doors to witness to the people for believing these speculative theories:
1888 Messages:
Let none feel it his duty to make speeches in the presence of our own people, or of our enemies, that will arouse their combativeness and they take your words and construe them in such a way that you are charged with being rebellious to the government, for this will close the door of access to the people.

The Southern Missionary 03-01-1904:
They (God’s people) are to purify themselves even as Christ is pure. When they understand fully the meaning of the prayer recorded in the seventeenth chapter of John, they will be so closely united with Christ that there will be no place in their minds for the speculative theories that spring out of nothingness and end in nothingness.

May we read John 17 by ourselves today, and reflect deeply on what it means to be one with Christ, and one with each other.

spanish meetings in richmond va

The meetings by David Gates at the Spanish-speaking church in Richmond Virginia from September 14-20 are over now, and i think went off well overall, even tho i didn’t understand hardly anything – ha! It was fun to pick up a few Spanish words tho, and the refrain from the them song is still going thru my mind: “Mas alla del sol” (Far, over there, the sun). Compared to Japanese it is super easy, as many words can be picked out of a conversation just because they are closely related to English.

About 80-100 came every nite, and we heard some good testimonies from several individuals during the meetings saying that they feel a stronger need to prepare for Jesus’ coming. I handled one of the video cameras, and it was kind of hard to keep standing on a metal chair for 2 hours or more gazing at a tiny screen, trying to keep the head and sometimes body too not in the center of the screen where it would look unnatural, but in one of the “thirds” on usually the right side (i ran the camera on the right facing left), or on the left (when he would stretch over and look at the people to the far left of him. But it was fun too in a strange way, and i seem to be getting better at keeping the camera steady.

The pastor’s wife offered to proofread the Spanish 1858gc book and one other family offered their daughter’s services to translate the Portuguese one, but i know that offering other people’s time is usually not a profitable thing to do. One man who runs an evangelistic radio station talked about the “original books” with authority, which surprised me, and again gave me a little spark to keep at it for “there are those who care”. 🙂

The people there were quite nice, if a little disorganized and loud, they even gave me some donations, of which i’m sharing with others. God is good. It was amazing to see a pastor who really seemed to care about his flock, and wants to receive advice from others about what to do to make his church come more into line with the inspired counsel 🙂

We were able to give an overview Bible study to the lady at the counter of the Quality Inn where we stayed at. America is so amazing to be able to have sincere discussions openly with people like this. The pastor is really evangelistic minded, and was always talking to people and trying to open doors to them. That is one big area where i need to improve, because my nature is to shy away from people, and keep my nose stuck in a book somewhere.

The only real problem i could tell, was the overall lack of solemnness. This is not just a problem with what i saw in Richmond, this is something that is all thru the ranks of us people who proclaim to have the last message of mercy to a dying world. Many times we like to saw joking things etc. that are not true, and then just write it off as a “joke”, and have a good laugh about it. Is this the way to act to help prepare a character to stand before a holy God?

God’s ministers should give the straight, solemn message, without trying to tickle the funny bone. It hit me with force, how different the atmosphere was during the Awakening meetings in the 1960s with what we have in the pulpits now. It was so earnest, solemn, and the people were poring over the words of God to see if these things were so. Where is that today? I don’t know of anyone on the planet doing it consistently, altho, of course i haven’t heard every SDA pastor speak!

building bigger barns (with red carpet!)

Yesterday i went to the McDonald Road SDA church just a 25-minute walk from where i stay. It is seen by most as a fairly “strong conservative” church. When i arrived in the sanctuary, i thot how luxurious it was, with the carpet being especially nice. I thot to myself (in my cynical/life experienced way), they probably are thinking about ripping it up to lay down new carpet. Well, in the announcement time, they announced…. “We have purchased new carpet and are asking for help on some Sunday to take the pews out so we can lay down the new carpet.” The first thing that went thru my head was “building bigger barns”. How can we read our Bibles and profess to follow and believe what God says, and then by our actions just totally ignore those words? So i guess those people in the Himalayan hills in Sikkim state, who finally got their very first church last year, will have to wait maybe a few more years/forever for electricity to their church, or a heater, or just about anything except a hard concrete floor and open-air windows. And yet, i haven’t heard anyone there complain – they’re actually happy to have an enclosed building to worship in. But who knows how long to wait for funds to build the next one in the province capital?

Do unto others what you want them to do to you.

Isn’t that part of everyone’s Bible? How will we be able to face the Creator of the heavens and the earth in that great day of judgment and he says: “Did you feed/water/clothe/visit/care for the needy?” Will we say “Oh Lord, we allocated 2% of church budget to those things”?

Maybe having red carpet on the church floor instead of blue will please God more than to have 2 extra churches where God’s family can grow?

“reaching islam made simple” review

Review of sermon given by Stephen Dickie at ASI meeting on August 6, 2010.

F

Well, this review is similar to my previous one of Stephen Dickie’s book: “Islam, God’s Forgotten Blessing” F.

This sermon does show refinement in the presentation of the message – that is, it doesn’t talk about the Qur’an as being a book from God, or about Allah being the same god as the Christian God, and in general, the tone is much better. The same error tho, about Islam being “good” and that we are all “God-Brothers” and the troubling scriptural twisting that somehow Ishmael’s line got the blessings of God is present.

Specific things regarding this sermon:
Right up front Stephen Dickie says the most egregious error of the sermon, the “block-buster” which seems to fail to awaken any reaction in the audience. He says near the beginning that after 9/11 he got interested in studying about Islam, and that it took him around 3 months to get up the courage to put what he thot was “satanic” material about Islam on his computer. He chuckles, and then says: “Islam…. is not satanic.” Now, with this blatant error out of the way quickly, and the audience not reacting, he then goes on mostly a true path for the rest of the sermon.

“I will never let a Muslim call me a Christian”. WOW. And no response from the audience, or from us listening today? How can us Seventh-day Adventists be promoting this kind of material with a pure conscience? How will we feel when the eyes of CHRIST are piercing us thru and thru when he gazes at us from that glorious cloudy chariot? “Um, oh, yes, i’m a Christian now?!”

“Tell them (Muslims) that you don’t eat pork in the first 45 seconds.” This seems like very good advice, as it opens a good wedge for the reception of the gospel.

He says when he reads Deut 21:15-17 to a Muslim, he changes the word “hated” to “unloved”, because he got badly verbally beaten up by a Muslim once! He uses these texts to try and prove that Ishmael must have received a double portion, and the right of the first-born is his!!! He says that God gave the land to Abraham’s descendants, and Ishmael’s line got twice as much as the Jews – plus all the oil! He says that they were never “cut off”, so i wonder what his position is on the Jews, who definitely WERE God’s chosen nation for over 1,000 years, until they killed him on the cross.

This fundamental misunderstanding about what is the “firstborn” derails everything that Brother Dickie is trying to produce – a reason why the Muslims are our “elder brother” and that we are all one family. Of course i recognize that they are humans, and we are all made in the image of God, but they are no more in favor with God than the Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, or even Satanists.

maps – worldmapper, population maps, remotest place on earth, air traffic, etc.

I thot i’d blogged this before, but guess not. Here are some links to maps showing the remotest places on earth, the size of countries by population etc.

Here’s a cool site with lots of interesting maps. The one morphing from countries with people earning less than 1usd/day to those earning over 200usd/day tells a powerful story:

giving

Warren Buffet, the man who gave 33,000,000,000 US Dollars or something like that a year or two ago to Bill Gates’ charity, has called on other wealthy people to give back to society, and 40 people have signed up so far. This is wonderful news, reviving a tiny glimmer of hope for mankind.

The reason this strikes me as important, is that God’s people should be doing such a marvelous mission work, that hearts would be touched, and billions of dollars would flow into God’s coffers. Of course, it is usually God’s way to touch hearts with his Holy Spirit to get the job done without the use of much money (like pulling it out of a fish’s mouth!) but still, there are rich people who are attracted to those making a full sacrifice for the good of others, and we should be like a shining beacon to them.

where’s the food?

I don’t often blog about current news, but the comment about the price of food potentially soaring late this year or early next year struck me, as Ellen White wrote about God’s people should not stock up on food when they see the price rising near the end time.
===========
Feast or Famine

As Asian governments grapple with too much rain, wheat- growing regions of Europe and Central Asia have the opposite problem.

Wheat has doubled in less than two months as drought slashed the harvest in Russia, the third-largest grower, prompting Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to ban exports yesterday. Dry weather in Kazakhstan, Ukraine and the European Union has also buoyed prices. Rice, a staple for half the world, rallied 9 percent in July, its biggest monthly advance since October.

The UN FAO Food Price Index, which tracks global prices of meat, dairy, cereals, sugar, oils and fats around, rose to 165.5 in July, the highest since February, according to its website.

The surge in wheat prices may fuel another food crisis as early as the fourth quarter this year, as millers seek cheaper substitutes for livestock feeds, sending prices of corn higher, and dragging with it the cost of soybeans, said Franciscus Welirang, chairman of the Flour Mills Association in Indonesia, Asia’s biggest importer of wheat.

Another global food crisis “is what we worry about in the fourth quarter or first quarter of next year,” Welirang said.

edited 2011/3/4 to include quote by Ellen White, God’s messenger:
Broadside #2 1849/01/31 – To Those who are receiving the seal of the living God
For two years past, the Lord has shown me in vision, repeatedly, that it is contrary to the Bible to make any provision for our temporal wants in the time of trouble.

I saw that if the saints have food laid up by them, or in the fields, in the time of trouble when sword, famine, and pestilence are in the land, it will be taken from them by violent hands and strangers would reap their fields. Then will be the time for us to trust wholly in God, and he will sustain us. I saw that our bread and water would be sure at that time, and we should not lack, or suffer hunger.–The Lord has shown me that some of his children would fear when they see the price of food rising, and they would buy food and lay it by for the time of trouble.

Then in a time of need, I saw them go to their food and look at it, and it had bred worms, and was full of living creatures, and not fit for use. About one week since, the Lord showed me in vision, that houses and lands would be of no use in the time of trouble, and in that time they could not be disposed of. I saw it was the will of God that the saints should cut loose from every encumbrance–dispose of their houses and lands before the time of trouble comes, and make a covenant with God by sacrifice. I saw they would sell if they laid their property on the altar and earnestly inquired for duty. Then God will teach them when to dispose of these things. Then they will be free in the time of trouble, and have no clogs to weigh them down.

blessing after blessing – indonesia

I had not planned to go to Indonesia. Even after 4 1/2 years of travelling since leaving Japan, i had never made even one contact in Indonesia, and had no desire to go and visit. After getting the 1858 Great Controversy translated into Bahasa Malaysia in 2007, i had thot that maaaaaybe i should think about going to Indonesia because the languages were so similar. Of course i had read on the internet that there are many Seventh-day Adventists (200,000 in 2010), and knowing how the people in Sabah are very receptive to Ellen White books, i had slightly considered that perhaps a similar response would be seen in Indonesia.

Well, after 5 1/2 weeks of what appears to be mostly fruitless time spent in Malaysia (except for meeting one young SDA), wondering why pride, having maids work on the Sabbath, worldliness, and strange conspiracy theories (the last is probably stopped by now) had entered the church, and why not even one person would study the 1858 Great Controversy with me, i caught a late nite flight to Jakarta. The information on the internet was not good, saying that this city is bland, polluted, and a bit dangerous. Of course there was a bombing of the Marriott hotel here not too long back too, so that element is something to watch out for also. So i came a bit concerned about safety, and not expecting much in the way of spreading the Great Controversy book. But was i ever wrong! OK, the safety problem is mostly as described, but i didn’t actually encounter it. There are quite a few thieves, and the corruption of everybody, especially govt. officials, makes everybody out to be a thief it seems, but the reception of the 1858 Great Controversy book by Ellen White is just astounding! The only other place that has ever come close in reception of this book is Sabah Malaysia, and that was 4 and then 3 years ago. It is a different story there in both respects now tho.

At the Jakarta airport i had no hassle at all in purchasing a visa for 25 US dollars. The girl pasting the visa in the passport had the veil over her head, but her nice smile almost made me think i was at a tourist information center. I kind of made friends with one elderly man from Malaysia, and gave him a pamphlet on health, and then after around a 30-minute wait in a scene extremely different from the huge, efficient Bangkok airport, i walked thru customs and then into a little hallway lined with money changers and taxi booths. There were quite a few men there plugging for customers, but after changing 27sgd, i walked thru them just smiling and shaking my head “no”. Of course many of the taxi drivers would not take such an easy “no”, so they would follow me asking where i’m going, where i’m from, etc. etc. There was a large, outdoors all-nite fast food place, but that didn’t look too inviting outdoors, so i went back inside, and found a little cafe, and hung out there all nite nursing a cup of hot milk with some almond-taste chemical in it.

Channel 5 TV News gave this report about the fire which occurred on July 20, 2010:

by Chris Cannon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Investigators believe a 3-alarm structure fire Tuesday afternoon on 24th Avenue North near Clarksville Pike is suspicious. For nearly five hours, firefighters battled with intense flames and the extreme heat.

Crews responded to the blaze at the former Seventh Day Adventist publishing house around 1:20 p.m. Heavy black smoke could be seen from miles away.
PHOTOS: 3-Alarm Structure Fire

The fire went to three-alarms. Two alarms of the alarms because to the size of the fire.

“And the third alarm is so that our guys can rest and other guys can go in and fight the fire,” according to Nashville Fire captain Maggie Lawrence.

Officials said 120 firefighters responded to the scene.

Temperatures in Nashville were into the low 90s as crews fought the blaze. Heat coming off the burning structure added to the already hot conditions.

In the 1890s, son James Edson White piloted the riverboat Morning Star on the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. Through an onboard printing press he published a journal called Gospel Herald, which encouraged and evangelized blacks in the South.

Moving to Nashville, he set his press up in a former barn chicken house. In 1901 the Gospel Herald Publishing Company became the Southern Publishing Association.

So this looks to be the very end of the line for the Gospel Herald Magazine founded by Edson White, which became the Southern Publishing Association. My father worked there from 1962-1970 or thereabouts, and my brother worked there too. Many truth-filled books were printed there, and i thank God for raising up this light in this part of the world.

Fortunately, last year when in America, i was able to take 6 pictures of the old Southern Publishing Association building. These pics can be seen on my blog here.

back to tennessee

I was raised in Tennessee, living here until age 22, and then again for several months in 1997-1998 time frame. Now i’m back again.

I made it to the GMI “compound” near the McDonald road church near Collegedale Tennessee today after a couple of false starts the last two days 🙂 I have a nice room, and the people seem nice. Please pray that i can have patience, and do what the Lord wants me to do here. They provide lunch, but breakfast and supper is on my own, so am about ready to cut up that big green pepper i put in the bag last Tuesday and maybe munch on some peanut-butter crackers.

It sounds like lots of people have just moved out, and lots moved in, so things are in quite a state of flux right now. Sounds like my first work will be helping in tidying up and maybe a little construction, and then maybe they will train me in video editing. So even if i don’t get a whole lot of private time to work on my animation project, hopefully there will be good results from the editing training. Of course i hope to be of service to them too. I sure hope and pray that the 1858 Great Controversy book and animation project can get propelled forward by my association here.

Lord, what do you want me to do? I’ve prayed much about this, and you’ve led me here. Here i am now, please use me. I need more patience, and pray for it abundantly, and also that i can give the straight truth to everyone i meet. I’ve tried and tried and tried to find places to get to working on the animation project, and nothing has ever worked out. PLEASE Lord, make it work out — soon. Amen.

Bible story for children

This is a cool site that has many of the stories of the Bible in various languages with simple drawings to appeal to kids. Note that the doctrine on going straight to heaven when you die is incorrect, but most of it looks faithful to the Bible. To “turn” the pages, just press the right arrow on your keyboard.

the fourth dilemma by dr. peter erens barkhuizen (2006?)

The Fourth Dilemma by Dr. Peter Erens Barkhuizen
B-

I was asked to read this little book regarding the importance of the Sabbath. It is printed so as to be distributed freely as an evangelistic tool, and inside the book itself it is written: “Distribution goal: 20 million copies”. Well that certainly is a large goal, but is this book worthy of that large goal?

It is largely a story of the personal journey of the author to come out of a Sunday-keeping church, into the truth of keeping the seventh-day sabbath of the Lord. As such, it is commendable, and higly readable. Somehow tho, it seems that the latter half of the book was written much later, and is of the sensationalist style ala “National Sunday Law” with many words in all caps, and ramblings about many non-essential things (like the episode regarding the National Enquirer) etc.

The only cause for doctrinal pause is given on page 56 of this 58 page book. “I am NOT lost every time I sin.” hmmmmm. While being true in the sense that we don’t have our names immediately erased from the Book of Life as soon as we sin, it is absolutely true that if we do not repent from any known sin, our names definitely WILL be blotted out, and we will die the eternal death. Then in the same paragraph he says: “When you keep God’s Sabbath, motivated by unconditional love, the deeper implication is that your judgment is OVER!” Those who know me well know that i cringe deeply whenever confronted with “unconditional love”, but actually in this context of our love/submission towards God, it just might be true. But is our judgment actually “over” when we keep the sabbath? hmmmmm.

I understand that Peter Barkhuizen has since gone out of the Seventh-day Adventist church, and some members went right out with him, so i would not recommend this book to anyone now.

the word

I’ve used e-sword as my main free Bible program on my computer for as long as i can remember. It has worked very well, and i’m happy to see more and more Bibles being available on it. I currently have the KJV, KJV+, ALT, Geneva, Japanese, Chinese, Romanian, and Arabic Bibles.

But last nite i learned that the new version of e-sword (version 9) has a new configuration for its database, and that some of the old Bibles don’t work. Then i came to this site: upgrade to e-sword 9? of David Cox, who has developed many modules for e-sword in the past. He has had bad experiences with e-sword’s proprietor, and says that many of the modules he’s made are now useless because of the new database design of e-sword 9.

What to do?

He recommends using The Word. It has lots of Bibles too, and yes, is free. I haven’t used it yet, but it looks very promising. I hope it is as fast as e-sword in searching, as that is the greatest feature. If anybody uses this new Bible software, please comment and let me know your impressions of it.
