no need to keep sabbath?

In the March 2010 edition of Adventist World, there is an article by Dennis Meier, a pastor of a SDA church in Hamburg, Germany.

He writes these words:
“I do not believe that you have to keep the Sabbath in order to be saved.”

My response to the Adventist World editor is:
Does the same apply to “You shall have no other gods before me”?

  1. I think what he may have meant by that was that it is not just the Sabbath keeping that saves us… he should have explained what he meant…
It is not just about what we eat that will save us, or about what we wear that will save us, etc. But, it is about everything that we do out of Love for Christ and to reflect His image. Christ did it all and was the whole of everything that we must love to do.
    newbie

  2. I would like to think that too newbie, but that is not what he said. Actually, there are quite a few leaders who believe like what he said. Sad to see leaders leading the sheep down the broad path.

  3. well, the Sabbath will be the mark of God’s people… it is not a test of time but a test of Loyalty for the last days… how can they be so deluded?

  4. very interesting I also say that there was a post on adventist today talking about how all the historical teachings on the antichrist and catholicism are in need of an overhaul and dont fit into todays prophecy guidlines or something to that effect

I did not find that he said it in his article. In fact, I agree in when he said: “The Sabbath is nothing without the Lord of the Sabbath.” We should preach the Lord of the Sabbath more!

  6. It is indeed a difficult issue. Technically speaking, of course it would be possible to be saved. I suspect heaven will be filled with ancient peoples (say natives) who never had a chance to hear about the Sabbath message. God never led Luther or Wycliffe at that time about the Sabbath message either, and obviously they will also be saved. The thief on the cross died before the Sabbath started.

However, I get your concerns also. Sabbath is all about worshipping God, and thus to say Sabbath isn’t important is to say that worshipping God isn’t important. It will eventually have an eschatological importance (although it should be remembered that Sunday/Sabbath is not the mark/seal as yet!)
