catholics value life more than seventh-day adventists

Yesterday there was a large rally in Washington D.C. supporting the right of the unborn to be born, instead of murdered. March for Life article

There is even an article in The Washington Post with the almost-mocking title: Seventh-Day Adventists and Abortion.

But the denomination may be the only theologically conservative Protestant group that allows elective abortions. Many of their own members didn’t know that their worldwide hospital network performed the procedure, which has been quite the discussion on the Adventists for Life Facebook page. A number of posters were shocked to learn the denomination’s stance.

What is sad to see, is the Roman Catholic church is in the forefront of upholding God’s commandments in this situation. We Seventh-day Adventists like to huff and puff about how the Catholics have changed the 4th commandment, and done away with the 2nd, but where are we when it comes to the 6th? Why are we so silent? Could it possibly be because we are making money on killing the innocent? Adventist hospital allows abortions.

What happened? How can a church who definitely IS the remnant church of God condone in any way the killing of the most helpless – the unborn? How hypocritical is it that of the many “conservative” SDA “ministries” out there, there are zero well-known ones supporting the unborn, and perhaps only 2 or 3 in existence at all? It was a very noticeable absence at the last General Conference Session in Atlanta to see many ministries doing wonderful things with spreading the gospel, with promoting health, with promoting education etc., and yet not even ONE ministry devoted to saving the most helpless! What happened to the spirit of the pioneers who went as far as to defy the laws of the land to protect slaves?

Might the problem lie with MONEY, and also with the fact, as noted in this article, that the abortion issue is “divisive”? We all just want to hug each other and feel good and warm and fuzzy and after a little social clubbing at church, go back to our regular lives the rest of the week, right? This article also raises a very interesting prospect, when it says that the Seventh-day Adventists were the only Protestant church group expecting to attend a “March for Life” rally held in Canada. Perhaps God is using this issue to help SDAs gain favor in the eyes of the Catholics when the Sunday Laws do come about? But here we are instead, more interested in being “in common” with everyone else, and frankly, just more interested in ourselves rather than in others.

There is one SDA man who is very involved with helping the unborn, that is Nic Samoljuk, editor of sdaforum. He even wrote his dissertation on this subject, available here. Here is an interesting quote: “One of them is that two third of Adventists were pro life twenty years ago, but the General Conference assigned the power to write the “Guidelines on Abortion” to the LLU, and the rest is history.” Please take some time to peruse his site. No doubt there are many, perhaps MOST Seventh-day Adventist members who do not know about these things, thinking that their church is trying to follow God in ALL the commandments, when the truth is different.

May we become pro-active, saving the lives of the unborn children, and call on our leaders to take the moral high ground that has been handed over to the Catholics, so that everyone will know that we stand for the whole truth of the Bible, and a life-giving God.

  1. Sixty-tree years old, and for the first time in my life I’m ashamed of the name Seventh-day Adventist.

  2. We need to step up to the plate as was done regarding evolution being promoted as truth in our schools.
“Not to speak is to speak, not to act is to act.”

  3. Thank you Tammy-san,
The pdf file is a good collection mostly of quotes from pastors of Seventh-day Adventists and Sunday churches along the lines of what was written here:
“There is no way you can justify or explain away the fact that SDA hospitals perform abortions. Sickens me how you claim to be a true church of God and preach about the Sabbath yet totally ignore murder in your own hospitals.
You may be able to soothe your minds and
find ways to get around a blatant disregard of truth, but I think you‘ll find it harder to explain your ways to God when the time comes. Upholding the Sabbath is not going to excuse your
murdering on a daily basis. The true church of God would not conform to the ways of the world and the Seventh Day Adventists have. I pity you.”

God bless you Sister as you try to wake up God’s sleeping church. We need to press our leaders to come out strongly in favor of keeping even the 6th commandment.

  4. The Bible tells us how to find knowledge and how to know doctrine Isa 28:9-10 It is by precept on precept, line upon line, here a little and there a little. In the Old Testament there was not truth or grace John 1:17. The Bible is the book of the knowledge of good and evil Gen 3:22. The word of God must be rightly divided 2 Tim 2:15The bible says the Lord will create a new thing on the earth Jer 31:22 where a woman shall compass a man. This man is Satan Isa 14:16. A woman shall bruise Satan at the heel of time Gen 3:15. Satan has deceived the whole world Rev 12:9, until this bruise of the true word John 1:1 is delivered to the whole world Rev 12:5, 13 as a witness. The bruising of Satan is now taking place at minigoodtale.blogspot.com If you are one that loves the lord God with all your heart soul and mind and strive to live by every word of God you will want to read the true word.

  5. val writes on her web page “No hell fire! No second death!”
    .
To continue: “God’s word does not produce heat. God’s word will convert the souls of all his created children. God’s word is not a literal fire. It is a burning of emotion to the heart. It is Love. Unconditional Love!.
*Isa 47:14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
    .
God created us to be against him Rom 8:7 to learn the knowledge of good and evil, he created evil to teach us good Isa 45:7. So that at our resurrection to eternal life John 3:16 we each will become the gods (Ps 82:6) that God has predestined us to be.”
    .
Val of the Church of God, you are helping fulfill the prophecy that wicked teachers in the last days will be preaching that everyone will be saved. Please repent and learn of the true Jesus.
    .
To others reading this, please note that at least Val is consistent in showing what the end result is of believing in “unconditional love”!!!

  6. I received a letter yesterday from the Assistant to the President of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Regarding abortion, the reply was standard fare:
“Abortions for reasons of birth control, gender selection, or convenience are not condoned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
    .
“There are, however, exceptional circumstances when a woman may face serious moral or medical dilemmas such as threats to the pregnant mother’s life, severe congenital defects carefully diagnosed in the fetus, and pregnancy resulting from rape or incest. We believe this decision should be made by the pregnant mother after appropriate medical consultation aided by her biblical/religious beliefs and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
    .
“Our church places a high value in life becuse it is a gift from God. We are called to be a loving, caring community of faith that assists those in crisis as they consider various alternatives and deal with the consequences of individual decisions on this issue.”
    —————–
That is just so sad. Not one Biblical verse is given supporting this position. In fact, it is really SUPPORTING abortion, in that it is considered alright to kill the unborn child if it has “severe congenital defects”, or is the result of “rape or incest”. If the 6th Commandment said “You shall not kill unless there is going to be some “defect”, then it is OK”, then i could support this position. But as it stands, our Seventh-day Adventist church is openly defying God on the 6th Commandment.
    .
How can there possibly be “Revival and Reformation” while we are openly breaking ANY of God’s laws?

  7. I just read a parody on the Seventh-day Adventist church’s stand on abortion, and it made me come up with this:
    .
“Sabbath breaking for reasons of work, income, or convenience are not condoned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
    .
“There are, however, exceptional circumstances when a person may face serious moral or medical dilemmas such as threats to the person’s life, severe beatings carefully diagnosed as necessary for “retraining”, and threats from family members or mobs resulting in possible rape or incest.
    ========================
Original parody, called “SDA Guidelines on Stealing” is here:
    http://letsfocusonlife.com/?p=4828
    .
How can God possibly bless our leaders’ calls for revival, when we don’t do the necessary reformation???

  8. I agree with the position of the Seventh-day Adventist church (“We believe this decision should be made by the pregnant mother…”) I am not in favor of abortion, but I believe that God does not call upon me to force my beliefs upon others or upon the nation as a whole, just as I would not impose the observance of the seventh day Sabbath upon others or upon the nation.

  9. John, So do you also believe it is OK to make exceptions to allow people to break the Sabbath, or to steal etc.?
    .
We must impose the observance of ALL the commandments on those who claim to be our Brothers and Sisters which make up God’s remnant church. Because we allow all kinds of sins to be glossed over, and in fact supported by the church, God cannot pour out his Holy Spirit.

  10. In this thread, opinions have been expressed, the premise of which I do not agree. Using an extreme example, a young lady or a married woman is gang raped and becomes pregnant – so I am to believe that she is committing iniquity to abort that pregnancy? Even if that was my opinion, I would never to subscribe to the belief that I have the right to impose my convictions upon her. She has a conscience and the decision is one that must be her own. I believe that to force her to do as I would do is the papal position.

But I believe there is an even greater consideration we should contemplate:

In the 1800’s what issue could have seemed more worthy than fighting racism and prejudice, but even these were not to distract the attention of the remnant church, because it was to focus on a far more important matter, heralding the Third Angel’s message to the inhabitants of the earth.

The servant of the Lord counseled His people:

“The work of proclaiming the truth for this time is not to be hindered by an effort to adjust the position of the Negro race. Should we attempt to do this we should find that barriers like mountains would be raised to hinder the work that God desires to have done. If we move quietly and judiciously, laboring in the way that God has marked out, both white and colored people will be benefited by our labors. The time has not come for us to work as if there were no prejudice. Christ said: ‘Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.’ Matthew 10:16. If you see that by doing certain things which you have a perfect right to do, you hinder the advancement of God’s work, refrain from doing those things.” (9T 214, 215).

I believe this instruction should be applied directly to the abortion issue in our own time. This issue is very divisive even within the Seventh-day Adventist church itself. Yet there are some who are so militant they want to impose their views not only upon the church, but upon all of society itself. I believe God is not calling us to make this issue a primary focus.

“Our people need to be silent upon questions which have no relation to the third angel’s message. If ever a people needed to draw nigh to God, it is Seventh-day Adventists. There have been wonderful devices and plans made. A burning desire has taken hold of men or women to proclaim something, or bind up with something; they do not know what. But the silence of Christ upon many subjects was true eloquence. . .”. 2SM 336

Abortion was a hot topic in Ellen White’s day also. Her virtual silence upon the issue speaks volumes.

Let us not have the spirit of Minneapolis and make our views on an emotional, divisive issue a test for others and a distractions from our primary purpose, to proclaim the Third Angel’s message to every nation, kindred and tongue.

  11. Congratulations to the owner of this web site. It is encouraging to know hat the Lord has other people determined to speak on behalf of those who cannot speak on their own behalf.

  12. John, You wrote: “I am to believe that she is committing iniquity to abort that pregnancy?”
    .
If you can show Biblical support for your position, please bring it forth. If the 6th Commandment has been amended to “You shall not kill, except in the cases of rape” then i will be happy to agree with your position.
    .
Jesus came to give life, not death.
    .
Abortion was not a hot topic in the 1800s according to my knowledge. Please show your proof.
    .
Slavery was a very hot topic then, one which split the country. Ellen White did write about it, encouraging people to break the laws of the land when they contravened the laws of God. Please see 9OT titled “The Rebellion”.

  13. Here is a review of a book by Mara Hvistendahl called “Unnatural Selection”. The author has documented many people use abortion for sex selection, thus resulting in 163,000,000 more abortions of baby girls than boys in the last 3 decades. This is most pronounced in Asian societies, where it is leading to huge problems. Instead of the normal 105 or so males born for every female, in India it is 112, and China it is up to an incredible 121.
    .
One big problem she points out, is that usually large imbalances between the sexes make a society much more violent.
    .
The book reviewer rightly points out that the author totally misses the point about abortion tho, as the author supports abortion very firmly, just saying that we need more govt. regulations to make sure baby girls are not discriminated against. But that is not the root cause of the problem. The root cause, is that killing little babies inside their mothers is very, very wrong.
    .
Our societies are killing themselves, so we really are bringing the consequences of straying from God’s way on ourselves.

  14. I’m very sad to report that Al and Tammy Roesch have left the Seventh-day Adventist church, and are calling on others to come out. This issue of abortion is undoubtedly one of their big reasons.

However awful this sin of murdering little babies is, i see no inspired reason to believe that this sin signals the end of God working with the SDA church. In the days of Israel, they were doing similar things with sacrificing children to Molech, and killing prophets etc., and yet, they were still God’s denominated people until they put Jesus on the cross.

Let’s not jump ship, but continue to press our leaders to repent for this horrendous crime.
