“Second Advent Waymarks and High Heaps…” by Joseph Bates

A+
Joseph Bates was one of the co-founders of the Seventh-day Adventist church. He was the driving force not only in getting the fledgling movement to accept the 7th day Sabbath message, he was also the pioneer in getting the SDA church to follow the health message, perhaps to a fault.

I’ve just typed in his book called: “Second Advent Waymarks and High Heaps, or a Connected View, of the Fulfilment of Prophecy, by God’s Peculiar People, From the year 1840 to 1847” by Joseph Bates (1847), and put it up on the internet. link to book

The most striking things to me about it are the documentation of the arguments used against the SDA movement, the way that nearly all of the former Advent believers rejected their experience in the 1843/1844 movement, the study by Joseph Bates into the holy days of God, and the way of looking at world events and interpreting them to mean that the final end has come (something we SDAs still are prone to do).

May this book be a blessing to all, as we learn from our history, believe it, and move to higher planes as Jesus leads.

基督及他的天使们和撒旦及他的天使们之间的大争战

The Chinese 1858 Great Controversy is finally available on earlysda.com/chinese/great-controversy-chinese.html”

My first attempt to get it translated into Chinese was in 1997 when I stayed with Br. Samuel Wang in Tennessee for 2 days. He said it could be done quickly, but he seemed to prefer the later edition, and it was obvious he had too many other pans on the stove to get involved with another one, so I didn’t press him. Next, I had contact with a Taiwanese man studying to become a SDA pastor in America in 2002, and he translated it, but the quality was poor, so it could not be used. A SDA Sister in Singapore in 2007 was contacted by a pastor there, and she translated it better, but still not faithful to the original. Then in 2008 a Chinese Sister in Malaysia invited me to come stay with an elder’s family near her house so we could work together on this, and she did a good job up to chapter 13 where she inexplicably said “good bye”, and dropped off all further contact.

Then, around 6 weeks ago, a Singaporean Brother asked around for me, and found this book on the Chinese Union Mission website. Actually, I had asked the Chinese Union Mission people at the 2010 GC Session in Atlanta to translate it for me, and one person said “sure”, and then he pretty much just walked away. I even went to Hong Kong and talked to the Mission publishing leader there in 2011, but nothing was forthcoming. So I was surprised to see it up on the net, and even more surprised to look carefully at the first two paragraphs, and see that they were quite faithful to the original (the only difference I found was that “all the angels” was translated as “armies of heaven”). I emailed the person contact person there, and quickly found out that I had to write in Chinese. So, by using machine translation, and knowing a bit about the meanings of the Chinese characters (as I know Japanese), I was able to get permission to put this up on my web site. I massaged it a bit, and put it into html format at the link above, and then put everything together in one PDF book available for downloading also. I just pray that many people can be benefitted by reading and adhering to God’s words!

Now if someone can help get this translated into Arabic (had one person say they would do it, but they didn’t), Portuguese (ditto), and French (totally quiet), that would be wonderful! Can you help? Let’s make sure God’s words don’t return unto him void. 🙂

vatican calls for army

Story reported here: vatican calls for use of force
The main Vatican UN diplomat, Italian Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, has called for armed resistance to ISIS in a document presented to the UN Human Rights Council. Crux interviewed him about its aims:

Tomasi told Crux that in the first instance, he hopes the statement will galvanize nations around the world to provide humanitarian aid to Christians and other groups suffering at the hands of ISIS, “so they can survive and stand up for their own rights.”

Beyond that, Tomasi said, the crisis requires “more coordinated protection, including the use of force to stop the hands of an aggressor.”

“It will be up the United Nations and its member states, especially the Security Council, to determine the exact form of intervention necessary,” he said, “but some responsibility [to act] is clear.”

The Vatican is clearly calling for some sort of UN-authorized force here. Tomasi further said that whatever force is formed, it must not be just a “Western approach.”

People of the world – BEWARE! ISIS is mild compared to what the Vatican has done in the past, and its plans for world domination at any cost in the future are outlined in Daniel and Revelation.

abandoned rail hiking adventure near osaka

On December 30, 2014, I went hiking with an English student to a place that used to be a railroad. This abandoned railroad is along the Mukogawa river, and is an easy hike thru several tunnels and open spaces along about 6km. There is one bridge where you must hang onto little kids, but it looked mostly safe to me along the rest of the trail, as long as they don’t decide to suddenly jump thru the railing along the side down to the river below.

Global Warming: evil spawn of Evolution

I thot about this video for a while, then wrote a short storyboard for it around 3 years ago, and finally got it done and uploaded to youtube. 🙂
This video explores some of the similarities between the mother whore of Secularism, and its current beloved baby.
Neither Evolution or Global Warming have observed evidence in their favor, adherents to both make outrageous statements to support their belief, both are defended with earnest zeal by the “consensus”, both require the force of law to promulgate their beliefs, both have cool computer animations to convince of their truthfulness, and, most importantly, both deny the God of creation.
What do you think?

unconditional love spawns hate

The following is basically a repost of what i wrote on Advindicate on an article called “Too Much Jesus?”

I appreciate the generally civil tone while discussing the problems with unconditional love. One of the main problems in 1888 was that the leading brethren would not treat the young ministers (or Ellen White) with brotherly love. (^-^)

The point about unconditional love is the main point. It is not an idle statement I made when I said that this doctrine is the worst to enter the SDA church in my lifetime. It is the “root” if you will of the “branches” of other unscriptural doctrines such as unconditional pardon and salvation, which of course lead to unscriptural “fruit” such as “No matter what you do, you are OK with God”. Dig out the unscriptural roots, and the branches and fruit will automatically be disposed of.

Your definition of “unconditional” (absolute), is right as far as it goes, but it left out the main meaning – that of being “without conditions”. This is the meaning that is unscriptural.

In some ways, this discussion about unconditional love is similar to that about Justification/Sanctification. Justification is an act where any sinner who truly comes to God will be washed free from all sin, and seen by God as completely clean, all because of the infinite value of the blood of Christ. There is nothing the sinner can do to add to that value, just as there is nothing the sinner can do in order to “get” Christ’s love. It is a free gift, totally unmerited.

Most SDAs I know will agree completely with this explanation of Justification. However, when it comes to Sanctification, there are huge divides. There is a large group who are usually labelled “liberals/progressives” who say there is never anything for the sinner to do. It is all of Christ from start to finish, and nothing we do has any bearing on our salvation. Many of them do not say it quite so clearly, but that mindset is clear in their rejection of following inspired counsel on how to live our lives today. They have no absolute foundation to stand on, and some of their leaders understand that, but most of the followers agree with it because it does not involve a cross.

Proposed changes to 28 fundamental beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists

I was recently given info about the proposed changes to the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of SDAs. These were voted to be brought before the delegates at the San Antonio GC Session next year (2015). That propelled me to make a video where i show my recommendations on how to fix the proposed changes. What makes me wonder/upset, is that Br. Ted Wilson said that “We are simply adjusting wording to make it clearer and more helpful”, but especially in #18 about the Gift of Prophecy, it is very clearly bringing Ellen White’s authority as the Lord’s Messenger down a couple of notches.

I recommend changes to the proposed changes in

#1 The Holy Scriptures
#2 The Trinity
#4 The Son
#18 The Gift of Prophecy
#23 Marriage and the Family

While not a fan of gender-inclusive language, there are several places where it makes sense. Some of the places do not, like especially in number 4.

Anyway, i made a complete video, and then a highlight video about these changes. If you like them, please give them a thumbs-up and leave a comment. Even if you dont like them, or if you have other ideas on what to do, please leave a comment on the videos.

May we lift up the Remnant church, and call for repentance when due.

interesting week

Little events in my life last week:
The typhoon blew thru Monday, so most of my English lessons were cancelled, but I should get paid for the ones at the school. There wasn’t much to the typhoon, only about 2 inches of rain and a little wind.

On Tuesday I was eating lunch along a stream/big ditch down in the town, and a woman walking her dog stopped and talked with me for a while, and after hearing i was vegetarian, told me to wait while got something. Well, she came back with around a dozen apples, dozen oriental pears, and two dozen super-nice tomatoes! Wow!

Thursday, somebody’s dog came to our house and stayed around 6 hours until we could find the owner. It is very rare to see a dog not on a leash in the town or in the subdivision here, so it was quite interesting.

Then Friday, while stopped at a stop light on my bicycle, a biggish, youngish man holding a cup of coffee and some papers called out to me in a loud voice: “gaijin!” (furreigner). I thot he might be mentally unstable, so kind of backed up. He started coming closer and still calling out loudly and asking where i was from. I got off my bike and backed it up quickly. He started coming towards me quicker, and just then the light changed, and i got on my bike and made a wide berth around him while he was shouting at me to obey traffic rules. Weird.

On the Sabbath i went to see my best SDA friend in Japan. I’ve known her for around 18 years. We worked closely to help the homeless, and she is the one who put a lot of energy and effort into helping me spread the 5,000 Japanese editions of the 1858 Great Controversy book. She has always been very powerful and active, so it was a shock to see her barely able to walk or hold a dish this Sabbath. She said she can’t grasp dishes etc., and her left leg has shooting pains. She had her husband call the ambulance two nites prior, and they couldn’t get a reading on her pulse. They called around to a few hospitals to take her to, but since the ER people didn’t have a good grip on her condition, all the hospitals refused to take her. She got upset with that, and just had them drive her back home. It is getting close to my time too, i’m afraid. No, not really afraid of going downhill, just that i recognize where i am in life, and see myself going down too.

What was nice, was that her husband (non-christian) seems to have his heart softened by all this, and he studied Mark 9 with us where we read “Help increase my faith”. He has mentioned he wants to become Christian, but i think he is afraid of what his father would say, so is holding off. I just hope he makes up his mind before it’s too late.

Seems like the 1% in America is trying to muzzle pastors now (lesbian mayor of Houston is). Persecution shouldn’t be too far off now.

funny dog diet video

I made comments on a little video of the dog I took care of for 2 weeks this January. His owner is talking to him in Japanese, and i translate what he says, and then try to come up with what the dog might be thinking. Enjoy!

Adventist-Muslim Relations still promoting Chrislam

In the Sep. 4, 2014 issue of Spectrum Magazine, there is an article by Keith Augustus Burton titled: “The IS and the US”. Since the Islamic State is a hot topic right now, I was very interested, so read it. While there were some good points made regarding the history behind the conflict, it was usual Marxist rhetoric about how the United States is such a terrible country. Yes, he actually put the Islamic State and the United States on the same plane!! Not only is this a reprehensible comparison, it goes against inspired writings that we should do nothing to make it appear that we are against our government.

It really makes me upset that anyone receiving the benefits of living in America would be so audacious as to equate a horrific, be-heading organization such as ISIS or IS or ISIL, whatever they are called today, with America, who has done more to maintain global peace and stability than any other country in the world for the last 70 years.

Br. Burton is the director of the Adventist-Muslim Relations Center at Oakwood University. He has a degree in Philosophy of Religion from Northwestern University. Why haven’t we SDAs learned yet that getting our “higher” training at a secular school is a sure recipe for falling away from Jesus? But then, we go and hire them to teach at our own universities because we need accreditation! It is sad to see how far away we have gone from God’s blueprint for our educational system.

I’ve had contact with AMR people over the years, and nearly all of them are basically into “Chrislam”, which states that the god of the Muslims and the God of the Christians is the same. That is blasphemy.

So yesterday I made this video to call on several AMR officers (and one layman) to repent:

We should pray for our Seventh-day Adventist leaders to lift up Jesus Christ – the Son of God.

Seventh-day Adventist Diane Wagner breaks silence on abortion at ASI 2014 convention

Diane Wagner helps break the SDA church’s silence on abortion. Their focus is mostly on counseling post-abortive women. Perhaps this method of “helping those that are alive and hurting” will attract more attention among our SDA leadership than what I and others have done of showing our leaders how abortion is a sin. I pray that our SDA church will strongly denounce this nefarious practice, rescind the “Abortion Guidelines”, and come up to the standard to protect all life made in the image of God.

one percent wants to change the world

There was a lot of chatter a couple of years back in the “Occupy movement” about the “one percent”. Supposedly, THEY are the bad ones, the ones ruining everything in society.

With this video, I show my partial agreement, but the “one percent” may not necessarily be the same group of people they are thinking of! youtu.be/x5WA3t6gQm0

1888 Materials by Ellen White

1888 Materials by Ellen White
A+

After nearly 6 years, it is done.

I started reading the 1888 Materials while in Thailand in 2008, and reading on and off for 5 years, finally finished all 4820 paragraphs on New Year’s day 2014. I wanted to give expression to what I learned from that reading, so planned a video, which finally, this week, I finished. The video is around 1 1/2 hours, so I split it into 3 parts and put it up on Youtube.

Adventists who have studied anything about the 1888 experience, know that it was mainly about Jones and Waggoner coming with the message of Righteousness by Faith, which the leading men in the SDA church then did not fully accept at that time. Other than that, there are many conflicting reports on what actually happened, with some publications even going as far as to state that the General Conference accepted the message!

Here, from Ellen White’s writings, we see that not only did the SDA leaders not accept the message, most of them were also actively working against Ellen White. Interestingly enough, while Ellen White basically supported the message of Jones and Waggoner, she mentions most pointedly that the main issue here was NOT about the Law in Galatians, but about coming together in a spirit of humbleness to work together with our brethren to seek what the Lord would have us learn.

So in this video, I have highlighted the quotes that seem to show the main points of the 1888 Materials, and the lesser-known quotes, as well as some quotes that just struck me as interesting/unusual. Being that my focus is what it is, you will find a preponderance of quotes that show that the leaders in the General Conference were in the wrong then, because these types of quotes are rarely, if ever, quoted from our pulpits. Also, I show the many quotes where Uriah Smith was one of the two ringleaders in this debacle, as many of us SDAs tend to view Uriah Smith’s books as almost inspired.

If you like the videos please give them a “thumbs-up” on youtube, so they will display higher when people are searching for videos to watch.

May we not repeat the mistakes of those in 1888, and may we always be humble to accept light thru whatever channel God pleases to send it to us.

incest latest abomination to gain acceptance?

Australian judge says incest may no longer be a taboo.

Judge in Australia says incest may no longer be a taboo and the only reason it is criminal is potential birth abnormalities, which can be solved by abortion.

Entire Telegraph article here.

Judge Garry Neilson, from the district court in the state of New South Wales, likened incest to homosexuality, which was once regarded as criminal and “unnatural” but is now widely accepted.

What is interesting to me, is that stuff like this is exactly what was predicted by those pointing out the abomination of homosexuality. While they were/are roundly pooh-poohed as being sensationalistic, they are being proven correct.

One big argument that homosexuals use to support their abomination, is: “How can you deny love between two consenting adults?” That kind of logic opens the gates to incest, polygamy, and other abominations.

Of course God, who has told us what is good and what is bad, knew this, so warned us with his holy words to not do those abominations.

May society at large, our Seventh-day Adventist church, and each of us individually repent, and resolve to follow all the words of God.

pope says sundays are for everyone

This pope is showing his true colors more and more recently. As everyone who is interested in end-time events probably already knows, he sent a little video to Kenneth Copeland’s group of pastors last January, calling for them to come back to the Roman Catholic Church. He also made the strange analogy of asking the Protestants to “come to Joseph” with the idea of getting help in their time of need, but made two huge mistakes with that analogy – Joseph was NOT the first born, and Joseph was in the land of Egypt (Babylon)!

Then he recently went to Jerusalem, trying to do his part obstensibly for peace, but more likely to get respect to be the “king-maker” in future negotiations, and probably also to get some of that land in Jerusalem, as Satan has always wanted to put his headquarters there. Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

Yesterday he called for people to take Sundays off work. He said: “that spending Sundays with family and friends is an “ethical choice” for faithful and non-faithful alike”. “Francis said the priority should be “not economic but human,” and that the stress should be on families and friendships, not commercial relationships. He added: “Maybe it’s time to ask ourselves if working on Sundays is true freedom.””

It looks like the gloves are being slowly removed. May all of God’s people be awake to the times!
