A review of a video by Spy Kitten TV, titled:
“A False Religion The Jehovah’s Witness Cult”. I’m not JW, but am Seventh-day Adventist, and as this video spends the first 7 minutes trying to tie in the false doctrines of the JWs with the true doctrines of the SDAs, this review is to show where the presenter made errors. Unfortunately, the video is so over-the-top, that it will not only work to establish JWs’ belief in their unbiblical doctrines, it also serves to make the non-religious look at all Christians as goof-balls (and I’m not saying JWs are Christians).
The following is where errors were found regarding Adventists:
1:05 The origins of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, along with the Seventh-day Adventists and both of their founders – Charles Taze Russell and Ellen G. White all go back to something called “the Millerite Movement”.
Actually, Russell was not born until 1852, so he could not “go back to” something that had finished 8 years before he was born! Fortunately, the video corrects this error at the 6:23 mark.
1:25 and that shortly after, Armegeddon would begin.
Actually, William Miller did not predict that Armegeddon would begin after Jesus came back in 1843 or 1844. He didn’t predict anything about Armageddon. This is just made up.
1:36 the date was further recalculated to March of 1844.
Actually, William Miller said from the first that the date was Jewish year 1843 – extending to March 21, 1844, based on the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14. He did not recalculate anything. An Advent believer, Samuel Snow, rightly calculated the Day of Atonement for October 22, 1844 as the correct day, since neither Miller, nor his detractors, thought to add one year for the zero year from BC to AD. That date correctly identified the end of the 2300 days in Daniel 8:14, but what was cleansed was the sanctuary in heaven, not this earth by fire.
3:07 her family (Ellen White’s) became involved in the Millerite Movement, the same as Russell would later.
Actually, Russel never, ever became “involved in” the Millerite movement. That movement finished long before he was born. Advent Christians and Seventh-day Adventists came out of the Millerite movement.

3:16 The accident… caused Ellen White to enter into visions.
Actually, it was the Holy Spirit that caused her to have visions.
3:23 She herself said it was that exact blow to her head that allowed her to see things in heaven.
Actually, she never said that, but did admit that because of this unfortunate accident, she couldn’t get an education like other kids could, so she could spend more time praying and reading her Bible.
3:40 1844, one of the original dates, is when Ellen White had her very first vision.
Actually, Ellen White had her first vision in December 1844, AFTER the October 22, 1844 date.
3:57 She was told it was a new era and a new eon.
Actually, She said nothing remotely like that.
4:10 She was told in this vision that it was upon Armageddon that it was only the SDA people who would be allowed into the New Jerusalem.
Actually, No she didn’t. Read the vision for yourself and see.
4:30 And she was also given a new date for the Jesus Christ’s return to earth, which would be 1874.
Actually, this is a bald-faced lie. Ellen White never, ever predicted a date for the return of Christ.
5:09 She would remain blind for days.
Actually, this never happened.
5:40 This of course, directly contradicts the idea that the sins of the world were actually placed under Jesus Christ.
Actually, in the sanctuary service, there are 2 goats. One is the Lord’s goat, and the other has all the forgiven sins placed on him, then it he is led away to be naught forever. The same thing will be done to Satan at the end.
5:58 And Charles Taze Russell couldn’t agree more with her teachings.
Actually, this is made up.
6:23 She finally shows that Russell was born after 1844 – Good! Of course that contradicts what she said earlier….
6:37 And he began to regularly attend her (Ellen White’s) Bible studies.
Actually, there is no evidence I’m aware of that Charles Taze Russell ever met Ellen White. I can’t think of any times when Ellen White “gave a Bible study” except like on a ship or train, as she spent most of her time writing and giving sermons. I cannot find any online info that Russell ever went to any SDA meetings.
18:23 It (Watchtower Bible) is very different from our original, King James Version Bible.
Actually, while it is very true that the Watchtower Bible is far removed from the real Bible, to say the KJV is an “original” is very strange, to say the least, as it was translated in 1611 from the Hebrew and Greek originals, while adhering to the many English Bibles translated before it.
26:06 the Jesus Christ that is being portrayed through the Watchtower’s teachings is not the same Jesus of the true Christianity, or of the Bible. Please, please, please be aware of the danger of this organization.
Actually, this is very, very true!!!!! Jesus is the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, the one and only way to heaven.
To recap: This video tells lots of strange things, showing that the creator is either pushing some strange agenda, or, more likely, is just passing on hearsay, without taking the time or effort to verify to see if these things are true. Let’s be good Bereans, and resolve to follow the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
