I thot i’d blogged this before, but guess not. Here are some links to maps showing the remotest places on earth, the size of countries by population etc.
Here’s a cool site with lots of interesting maps. The one morphing from countries with people earning less than 1usd/day to those earning over 200usd/day tells a powerful story:

Remotest place. Notice how India is really lit up!:

Lights on earth at nite:
are there any lights in North Korea?
That’s pretty cool…. liked the planes as they reminded me of an old ant farm years ago
I never had an ant farm growing up. I guess living in the countryside provided enough ants to observe – ha!

Consider the ant thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise.

Many times in Japan i thot of the people around me, and myself too sometimes, as ants in the great scheme of things. It really is amazing that God pays us any attention at all!
Here is a map showing the gdp of each state in America as compared to some other country in the world. Japan, Germany, China, UK, and France are bigger than any one state, but the ones that do match are quite surprising – Texas equals all of Russia??

Some interesting observations – The 2 coasts which are usually seen as more liberal in general have a higher number of “unaffiliated” and “Catholic” adherents than the more generally conservative “heartland” which is more Protestant. Also, Muslim doesn’t seem to be over 1% in any state. In general, the richer states have less Protestants than the poorer states, showing again the truth Jesus spoke that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
