God’s holy days for 2014

God has a sabbath that comes around every 7th day – from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. He also has a special sabbath that occurs on the 10th day of the 7th month, called “Day of Atonement”. There are 6 other holy days of the Lord (Leviticus 23) in a year.

2014:

    Passover

– sundown April 13 to sundown April 14.

    1st day Unleavened Bread

– sundown April 14 to sundown April 15.

    7th day Unleavened Bread

– sundown April 20 to sundown April 21.

    Pentecost

– sundown June 7 to sundown June 8.

    Trumpets

– sundown September 24 to sundown September 25.

    Day of Atonement

– sundown October 3 to sundown October 4.

    1st day of Tabernacles

– sundown October 8 to sundown October 9.

    Last Great Day of Tabernacles

– sundown October 15 to sundown October 16.

While Passover is special, there is no command to refrain from work on it. The Day of Atonement is special, in that it is to be kept like a 7th day Sabbath, or perhaps even stricter with no work at all. The other 6 holy days just require no “servile” work.

May we rejoice in God’s wisdom and judgment in giving us holy days of rest to reflect on him.

  1. Colossians 2:14-17 makes it clear that these ceremonial holy days, feasts, and ceremonial Sabbaths were all done away with at the death of Jesus Christ our Lord along with the rest of the ceremonial/sacrificial system. Hebrews 10:1-5 also shows the sacrificial system was taken away at Christ’s death, the true sacrifice. Ezekiel 45:17 also shows the feasts and yearly/ceremonial Sabbaths were part of the sacrificial system. The Passover lamb represented Christ’s death, when He was sacrificed for our sins, that was fulfilled and done away with, the price was paid in full.

  2. I used to believe similarly to you, Don. However, the Bible doesn’t say that anything was abolished at the cross except as Daniel 9:27 prophesies – the sacrifices and oblations.

Please notice that Colossians 2:14-17 says nothing about God’s holy days being done away with. The Worldwide Church of God split over this, because the word for “Sabbaths” in verse 16 is most definitely referring to the seventh day sabbath!
